Blog Check #1, January

Blog 1, Favorite word

If I were to choose a favorite word, it would have to be integral. The reason I like the word is because of the two separate reasons. The first reason is because how it rolls off your tongue when you say it. It’s smooth and sticks in my mind. When I say it at least, it comes off very elegant. The second reason is because of the meaning the word has. It technically means to take an equation and make it to a higher power, but what you can do with that is what I think is amazing. You can take the meaning of that word and apply it to business models and graphs. You can use it in science to discover new and amazing things.

Blog 2, Self response to Ethos paper
The first paper we typing for English 250 was on the ethos of the speakers. We haven’t received our graded papers back yet but I do believe I already know of some areas that I need to work on in order create stronger papers in the future. The first big thing I think I will need to work on is the transitions. I know that I had 1 or 2 good transitions with in the paper, but much of the paragraphs stopped and had nothing really to lead into the next paragraph other then it being related to the speaker’s ethos. Another key componat I need to work on is grammar. If I did not have pear review, I would receive an F on the paper, so in order to make more of the pear review; I need to enhance my grammar so that they can focus more on other parts of the paper that may have problems.

Blog 3, Othelo response

The ethos that Iago establishes in the first line of the play is that of a religious man, but he seems to be questioning his belief. Sblood means “his Christ Blood”(Othello pg.4), relating back to his beliefs but then continues to say how he would never adore or here his call. This reinforces the ethos he has established. It provides the evidence to the audience that he is a faithful man questioning his faith. As well as what he is comparing his faith to other matters that are going to be going on in the play.
The last line of the his lines read, “ From this time forward, I will never speak a word”(pg 255) stabling quite the opposite ethos from the beginning of the play. He is saying that he will never prey again. He is abandoning all of his faith. This gives him a new ethos because he was a man based on faith and God and now that is gone it reveals the last aspects of what type of immoral ethos he has, which is clear throughout the end of the play.
Iago is clearly the best person in the play of speaking the language. Take for example what Professor Shenk said in class, when ever Othello hinted at what he wanted, Iago would turn his words around to give is dedication to the man.
